I'm 14 going on 15 this year. I want to find a job to earn some decent money. Where and what can I do? HELP!

Hi Kelly,

Most people start off with a paper round or Saturday job in a shop. There is no minimum wage for under 16s so the pay is often very low. There are strict rules about the work that you can do at 13, check out the section about Working whilst still at school.

Hello,

I’m sorry to hear that college has not worked out for you. I can't tell you about local opportunities because you don't say where you live but on the Help4teens website we have lots of information about looking for jobs and we even have a vacancies section.

I think that you might need a bit of advice to get you started: Contact you nearest Connexions Centre and book an appointment to see an Employment and Training Adviser. They will be able to talk to you about the opportunities available and also help with things like applications or creating a CV.

Good luck

im 15 and i get my national insurance card next month, will i still be able to get a job in a shop in town or something?

Hello Shannon,

Your National Insurance number is your own personal account number which you keep all your life. It makes sure that the National Insurance contributions and tax you pay are properly recorded against your name.

There are rules about the type of work and number of hours you can do and you can find these in our Work 4 U section .
