Your Health and Safety / Fitness and Healthy Eating  

 

 ► Fitness  

Keeping fit and healthy will make you feel better both physically and mentally. It will also reduce the risk of illness and can also be lots of fun too. It is recommended to do at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 times per week. One way you could do this is walk or cycle to school or work. You could also try joining your schools sport teams such as football or netball. There are many gyms and swimming pools throughout County Durham which offer good facilities for young people. You can also get swimming free if you are under 18. You could also try the Get Out There website which is activities for young people in County Durham.

 ►Healthy Eating  

A healthy diet is really important for a growing teenager! Eating lots of unhealthy food such as fried foods, chocolate, fizzy drinks and crisps and sweets doesn’t give our bodies all the nutrients it needs. It’s recommended that you eat five portions of fruit and veg per day and also other healthy foods such as pasta, fish, lean meat, salads, juices and brown bread.
