Jobs in finance usually need you to have good numerical skills, be accurate and methodical. If you enjoy maths and statistics this is a good option. Most jobs in finance involve working with people, either as part of a team or face to face with customers. You may be expected to study maths at A level or higher for some of these jobs.

►Accountancy

Accountants give specialist financial advice to individuals and businesses to ensure that their funds are managed and their liabilities (such as tax, debts, and wages) as paid. They produce financial reports and prepare accounts for industry or the public sector. Accounting technicians work alongside accountants to assist in tasks such as preparing accounts, completing tax returns and reports.

►Banking and Building Society Work

►Insurance

The insurance industry provides individuals and companies with insurance as protection against risk. You can insure your life, car home or personal property. Companies may insure against premises, injuries to staff or visitors or loss to their business. The sort of jobs available could include: writing policies, assessing risk, surveying damage, handling claims, etc.

►Acturial Work

Actuaries work out how much individuals and businesses should pay for their insurance and pensions by calculating the risk of making a claim. They also manage the financial investments of a company or organisation to ensure that they make a good return.

►Financial Services

Cover a range of service related to finances such as credit control, tax and financial advice. Credit is where you can buy goods or services and pay for them later. Credit control management is the financial system which administers this. A financial adviser advises people on their individual investments and savings, they may either be tied to a financial institution such as a bank or building society and give advice about a limited range of financial products or independent where they can choose from all available products.

►Stock Exchange Work and Commodity Markets

A job on the stock exchange involves advising investors to buy or sell stocks and shares to make profit. It can also involve buying and selling on their behalf Commodity Markets trade in commodities like oil, gas, sugar or precious metals rather than stocks and shares.

►Pensions

Pensions are an investment built up whilst you are working which can give you an income when you retire.A job in pensions could include: administrator, pension manager; who may manage a pension fund for a large company or scheme or a pension advisors; who may work directly with individuals to plan their own pension.
